What is shamanism?
Shamanism is an ancient tradition that dates back at least 40,000 years and was a part of most ancient indigenous cultures in Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, Greenland, and Native North and South America. Shamanism is a healing method based on the understanding that all experiences affect one’s soul, thus, all healing comes through the soul. Once the soul is healed, other healings can manifest in the physical, emotional, and mental bodies.
What is Soul?
Our soul is our essence, life force, the part of our vitality that keeps us alive and thriving. The body is the vehicle for the soul. Our soul can be described as our energy systems having a human experience. We are indeed creatures of energy. Our health depends on healthy energy fields.
Maintaining our energy fields and energy system is a major component of good health.
Unfortunately most people are unaware of this need and go through most of their life not sustaining or performing maintenance on their energy system. The outcome from this lack of attention can present in emotional instability or complications, mental cloudiness or obsessive thinking, and spiritual stagnation. In fact, all illness is caused by faulty energy frequencies in the body.
What is a shaman?
The word shaman comes from the Tungus tribe in Siberia and means “one who sees in the dark”. Shamans look at the spiritual form of illness which might manifest on an emotional or physical level. A shaman is a man or woman who changes their consciousness, at will, in order to travel to another reality to interact directly with spirits to obtain power and knowledge. Once the mission is accomplished they journey home to use this power to help either themselves or others.
The Shaman is able to journey to other realities, at will, by using rhythmic drumming, dance and song.
Through shamanism we also perform soul retrievals, divine information, help the spirits of deceased people cross over, and perform a variety of ceremonies for the community.
Core Shamanism and the 21st century
Modern shamanism, as it is taught and practiced in the 21st Century, is a contemporary path, is not a doctrine, a tradition or a religión, but is grounded in the core concept of historical shamanism.
If you were to follow one particular tradition, there would be specific ways to do things, ways to believe, and dogmas. Core Shamanism on the other hand is not following a particular path. It is about becoming empowered within ourselves. It is about finding our own path, the one that works for us, and using within it some core concepts that are from indigenous cultures around the world.
Healing is, and always has been, the main work of the Shaman or Shamanic practitioner.

1. Soul Retrieval
The definition of soul could be our essence, life force, the part of our vitality that keeps us alive and thriving. The body is the vehicle for the soul.
It is believed that whenever we suffer an emotional or physical trauma a piece of our soul flees the body in order to survive the experience. This is called soul loss.
It is important to understand that soul loss is a good thing that happens to us. It is how we survive pain. If I was going to be in a head on car collision the last place that I would want to be at the point of impact is in my body. My psyche could not endure that kind of pain. So our psyches have this brilliant self protect mechanism where a part of our essence or soul leaves the body so that we do not feel the full impact of the pain.
Any event that causes shock could cause soul loss. And what might cause soul loss in one person might not cause soul loss in another.
The types of trauma that could cause soul loss in our culture:
- Any kind of abuse sexual, physical, or emotional.
- Any type of accident.
- Being in a war, being a victim of a terrorist act or being in a natural disaster
acting against our morals. - Surgery or anaesthesia.
- Addictions can lead to soul loss.
- Divorce, or death of a loved one including our beloved animals.
- Oppressive schooling or work experiences.
- A violent argument.
- When we attempt, over a long time period, to be accepted by another person.
- Co-dependancy.
Symptoms that may indicate sould loss
- Not feeling connected to the body or reality.
- Repetitive sicknesses—colds, flu, and so forth.
- Major illnesses.
- No sense of direction.
- Memory loss.
- Shame or feelings of guilt.
- Feelings of unworthiness.
- Not feeling one’s personal power.
- Anything chronic—fatigue, depression, misfortune, faulty relationships, emotional problems, suicidal tendencies.
Animals and Soul Loss.
- Animals also have soul, a life forcé that animates them, and similar to humans they can lose parts of their soul in just the same way. Any kind of trauma, accident, abuse can cause them to lose power as well as if their human takes up too much of their animals energy. Soul Retrieval returns their power.
Life After healing
Once a person has his or her soul brought back they generally need to start working on themselves to créate healthy lifestyle and make healthier choices. If the person has done a lot of personal work the soul retrieval might be the end of the work. If not the soul retrieval would be the beginning of the work.
Animals, on the other hand accept, unconditionally their new state and the human is the one that may need to make changes on their behalf.
2. Shamanic healing
Human beings are primarily energy systems having a human experience. Our energy systems are complex and reach far out of the body surrounding the body in fields of energy. These fields can be called auras, subtle body fields, or electromagnetic fields depending on which discipline you follow: metaphysics or science. These fields of energy can extend out several feet from the body. There are also energy fields inside the body, which are called meridians and chakras.
So on saying this, energy is the predominate part of our make up and is a major component of our emotional stability, mental clarity, and spiritual awareness. Our energy is not static but is extremely fluid. It can be lost, hijacked, contaminated, or stolen. It can also be refueled, ignited, heightened, attuned and returned.
Animals are also primarily energetic systems with similar energy fields. Their energetic systems need sustenance and maintenance.
3. Shamanic journeying
Quantum physicists has confirmed that we actually see less than .01% of what surrounds us.
Shamans have known for thousands of years that worlds and non-physical beings exist that are unseen to our eyes, but not to our knowingness.
So how do we access those worlds? Through the shamanic journey technique.
The shamanic journey is a remarkably simple, yet powerful tool that brings those unseen worlds and non-physical beings to life. It is an inherent skill available to all human beings and can be used by people with a Western culture background. The journey process is facilitated by rythmic drumming.
The journeys help us shift our dreams, our purpose, and our longings, by getting in touch with what is provided from the other 99% of what exists.
What is involved in journeying?
Each journey is facilitated by myself and each journey will vary depending on your level and your issue. The journeys are recorded so that you may take it home for further study. I also help you to understand how the wisdom you brought back would be relevant for you.
For beginners your first journey is to the Lower World to meet your Power Animal or Guardian Spirit. This wonderful, compassionate ally will accompany you on all subsequent journeys as you discover the many facets of Who You Are!
For those who already know how to journey I will help you set a clear intention on your issue and then you will journey to meet your teachers to ask for healing or knowledge related to that intention. Each time you journey you will build a stronger partnership/connection to your spirit teachers and masters.
You will be able to journey to ask for knowledge, wisdom and healing for you to solve problems, gain clarity about life’s circumstances and for healing.
4. Therapy and Shamanism
Shamanism supports traditional therapy.
Many people remain in traditional therapy for long periods of time. They often understand what has happened to them on an intellectual or cognitive level, but still the changes they look for do not occur. They remain in long term therapy.
The shamanic explanation for this, is that the person has been weakened due to losing part(s) of their soul and these parts remain suspended in a different reality, therefore they are not present in the therapy sesión. Because of the parts absence, it does not ‘hear’ the therapist and continues to relive its trauma over and over again. Successful therapy is hindered by its absence.
After a soul retrieval, there is understanding not only in the mind but also in the heart and soul of the client. The return of the lost soul part allows healing to occur emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. The person i sable to move quickly through their therapy sessions.
It is important to remember that the soul is divine in its essence, and this divine nature is retained in a lost soul part. In receiving a soul retrieval, one never gets back the problem. The soul part left because of the problem. During the soul retrieval, the divine essence returns, which restores wholeness to the soul and causes the person to start to feel complete and empowered.
